"Don't Worry, Nobody Watches It Anyway"

Recently, there has been an uproar of controversy surrounding a certain comedians comment about Canadian soldiers and their presence in Afghanistan. Much to the dismay of canadians, Greg Gutfeld, host of "Red Eye", had made a comment along the lines that the canadian military is infeminate, and the U.S should invade Canada because they aren't a strong army. Tho, it is true that Canada's military is not the strongest in the world, I would have to disagree in large amounts with the comment. Many share the views of the comedians, while others (including U.S citizens) are defending the canadian military's presence in war torn Afghanistan.

There has always been U.S presence in the east and for the large part, they have been there trying to salvage a country and rebuild it. And of course, they did need to defend themselves against terrorists and the atrocity bestowed upon them on 9/11. But please don't forget, while the canadian army is one of the weakest in the world, they were one of the first to stand strong with the United States as allies against "the fight against terror". They didn't need to stand up and send countless amounts of soldiers into the country. It has been 10 years since canadian soldiers have been present in the east. It seems day after day, they lose 3-4 soldiers which after a while amount to many deaths. Not to say that U.S military hasn't suffered much loss as well, but do we mock them? I would say not. The remarks were said after the Canadian army chief issued a statement saying after their tour ends in 2011 , they would need at least a year to regroup and refurbish. Is that too much to ask for after serving loyally with allies? I would say not. If the help is not needed or appreciated then why do they bother helping? Because that is what Canada does and the foundation of being an allied country. Not to mention loyalty. But apparently, to many, this just isn't enough and is set for ridicule.

Not many understand why such comments would outrage so many. For those who are outraged, I stand firm that I am embarassed for the Fox News Network. Just because the show airs at 3 a.m doesn't make the comments politically or socially correct. And yes, it was a so-called joke, and I can laugh it up like anyone, but these are human lives we're talking about, being killed because they want to help.

For those, who think canadians are just "silly" for being angry. Have you lost a loved one? A brother, sister, mother, father, cousin, friend, uncle, aunt, granparent during the war? Take a step back . Put yourselves in shoes of those left behind. How would you feel if one day, someone came to your door and told you that your family member or friend was killed during, a road side bombing, a surprise attack or a suicide bomber? And that goes for ANY family stricken by the loss of a loved one by these horrible circumstances. You can judge all you want but until you have experienced for even a brief moment how that feels, you will never understand how a small "uimportant" comedic comment can influence, and hurt. An apology by the host was issued Monday. But was is an apology if it's just meant to save your show?

But Hey, No big deal, few watch it anyway.
